Becky was born into a middle class family from Okemos, Michigan. Her mother was a school teacher and her father was a police officer. Her very first part-time job was at a jewelry company in a mall. Little did she know this would plant the seed of her larger-than-life dream of owning a successful jewelry business. After she graduated from high school, she went off to college with the hopes of becoming a school teacher just like her mother. However, just a short time into school, she realized she wanted to pursue a career in the jewelry industry. Since she sold her first diamond engagement ring all those years ago, her desire to be a part of the jewelry world never really went away. Another part-time job at a jewelry company also propelled her to follow her dreams after she earned the nickname of "Diamond Girl."

In 1987, she enrolled in a program at the Gemological Institute of America, which is the most influential and well-respected jewelry institute in the world. Throughout the six month long program, she learned everything she could about stones and other gems to have the foundation to open her own business selling loose diamonds and other bridal jewelry. Her hard work and dedication paid off because at the end of the program she earned a graduate gemologist degree, which gave her the knowledge and confidence to open her own business.

With all of her savings invested to launch her business, she bought a portable lab that would allow her to go door-to-door providing appraisals for people's wedding bands and other such valuables. She was unsure of the direction her business would take so she named the company something generic: Gem Services. Her personal approach to her company gained her lots of business. It eventually grew to the point where she needed a storefront and employees to help her run the company. She moved the company into an actual storefront where customers could come see her beautiful selections of diamond engagement rings and luxury time pieces, and also changed the name to Becky Beauchine Kulka Diamonds & Fine Jewelry.
